It only takes 108 milliseconds for our brains to recognize food

It takes our brains just 108 milliseconds to determine whether an object is a food. A better understanding of how we visually perceive food could help direct advertising to encourage us to make healthier choices.

Scientists know very little about how we process seeing food, says Tom Carlson of the University of Sydney, Australia. “This is unexpected given the important role vision plays in food selection,” he says.
